Letter of support for EUSP

The ASEEES Executive Committee has sent the following letter of of support to Rector Oleg Kharkhordin: Dear Rector Kharkhordin, On behalf of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies, we write to express our steadfast support for the European University at St. Petersburg.

The association of Finnish sociologists, the Westermarck Society, expresses its unanimous support for the European University at St. Petersburg (EUSP) whose activities are endangered due to alleged violations of administrative regulations.

Today, on April 5, 2017, the Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast ruled on the EUSP claim against the Committee for Property Relations to declare unjustified the unilateral refusal to implement the lease agreement. The court did not uphold the EUSP claim. The decision of the court may be appealed at the 13th Arbitration Appeal Court within a month after its publication.

The Cambridge Courtauld Russian Art Centre and the Art History Faculty at the European University in St Petersburg have a longstanding and fruitful relationship which is founded on mutual educational and research interests. Our scholars have collaborated on joint research projects with colleagues in the Art History Department at EUSPb, and EUSPb's academic staff, associated researchers, and research students have participated in academic conferences at the University of Cambridge and the Courtauld Institute of Art.

The preliminary hearing on the EUSP lawsuit challenging the inspection act of Rosobrnadzor's recurrent order to eliminate violations took place today, on March 30, 2017. Representatives of the Federal Service for Supervision of Education and Science applied with a motion for termination of proceedings. However, Judge Lyubov Dranko left the application open and scheduled a hearing for April 27, 2017 By that date the EUSP should provide its review on the motion of Rosobrnadzor and the latter shall submit a written opinion of its director.

Statement of the Board of Trustees of the European University at St. Petersburg March 29, 2017 The Board of Trustees of the European University at St. Petersburg stands unanimous and steadfast in its support for the University Rector, leadership, faculty and students. We welcome and support all reasonable, rational and constructive efforts to appeal and overturn the recent decision by Rosobrnadzor to annul the University license.
