Dear Dr. Kharkhordin,
On behalf of the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies at the University of Michigan, I want to express our support for European University at St. Petersburg.
CREES has been following the news regarding the Russian Ministry of Education’s investigations of the European University at St. Petersburg and is concerned by the ongoing pressures placed on your institution.
We recognize EUSP as one of Russia’s most prestigious universities and can attest for this excellence in our own interactions with EUSP. Our faculty emeritus, Dr. William G. Rosenberg, is Deputy Chair of the EU Board of Trustees, and President of the Fund for the European University. Our doctoral students have gained invaluable experience as visiting instructors at EUSP. We’ve hosted guest speakers from EUSP including as recently as this past March for our “Revolutionary Longings” conference on the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution. We are also proud to have CREES alumni who now teach at EUSP.
In short, we well know the value of EUSP and sincerely hope that your efforts to resolve the alleged administrative regulations will soon pass.
Sincerely,
Geneviève Zubrzycki
Director, Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies
Associate Professor of Sociology
