The Center for Anthropology of Religion was established in 2010. Its tasks include the implementation of research projects in the fields of anthropology, sociology, and the history of religion, the organization of conferences and seminars, carrying out consultation and expert evaluations based on the profile of the Center’s activities, and the formation of a scholarly archive. The Center’s work is predominately focused on the religious culture of modern Russia.

In 2010-2012, the Center coordinated the project “Pyatidesyatnicheskie i kharizmaticheskie religioznye dvizheniya v sovremennoi Rossii [Pentecostal and Charismatic Religious Movements in Modern Russia].” The project was supported by a grant from the University of Southern California and the Templeton Foundation.
