About

The Institute for Interdisciplinary Health Research (IIHR) was established at the European University at St. Petersburg in 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic revealed a profound lack of reliable epidemiological and medical research in Russia. IIHR commenced its work with a population-based study devoted to the SARS-CoV-2 spread in St. Petersburg that aimed to fill this gap.

Another important line of our work is cancer epidemiology, which is currently represented by evaluation of data in Russian cancer registries. The project entails establishment of a cancer statistics database for Russia as well as planning and conducting of epidemiological studies (including randomised trials). We also work on projects in the fields of qualitative health research and health technology assessment.

IIHR consists of three research groups. Anastasiya Novkunskaya coordinates the research group on Social Studies of Health and Medicine; Anton Barchuk heads research on Epidemiology and Biostatistics; and Yulia Raskina leads the group on Health economics.
