Taken with the success of American Silicon Valley, a number of states strive to create their own economic ‘cluster’, i.e. geographically localized zone of innovation economy. In Russia this ambition has shaped into the Skolkovo ‘innocity’. However attractive the idea of a governed innovation jump is, the experience of many countries demonstrates that a successful ‘cluster’ cannot be created following a bureaucratic order.

 

The workshop is aimed at promoting the use of advanced economic theory in the field of natural resources, environment and growth.

Jurgen Doring started his first company at the age of 23, right after graduating from Munich Technical University as an electrical engineer. rd electronics has since grown into a global leader in car electronics, measurement and testing systems. Venturing out to repeat this success, Jurgen started AEE Renewables where he now spends most his time as CEO. AEE develops and builds hydro power plants as well as solar (photovoltaics) plants.

Dr. Tom G. Palmer is the Vice President for International Programs at the Atlas Economic Research Foundation. Previously he was Vice President for International Programs at the Cato Institute and Director of the Center for Promotion of Human Rights.  He is a Senior Fellow at the Cato Institute and Director of Cato University, the Institute's educational arm. 

The joint seminar of the Department of Economics and the Center for Environmental and Technological History: presentation by Stanislav Shmelev (RSEE; The Open University, UK).

Annual conference, organized by the Department of Economics (EUSP) and St Petersburg Institute for Economics and Mathematics (RAS) participated by young researchers, PhD students and senior years students.

  The presentation was given by Birgit Hansl, lead economist and coordinator of the World Bank for Economic Policy in Russia, Alvaro Gonzalez, lead economist in the Department of Development for the Private and Financial Sector, and Sergei Ulatov, a senior economist in the Department of Economics and Politics.

Department of Economics invited academics, students and practitioners from Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union, although participants from the rest of the world to join the School. The main objective of the School is to disseminate knowledge and results of latest research in the area of Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, and related fields.

Round-table discussion with Duncan Sparkes, Counselor for Trade and Economic Policy of the British Embassy in Russia. Mr Duncan Sparkes, Economic Counsellor at the British Embassy in Moscow, will lead a discussion with students about Russia's economic prospects and reform priorities, and Russia's engagement with the international economic institutions, including the G20, WTO and OECD.

Lars Håkan Danielsson was born in 1961 in Sweden. After graduating from the University of Copenhagen with a degree in acturial mathematics in 1987, he began his career at the Länsförsäkringsbolagens AB insurance company, and in 1992 was appointed CEO of the reinsurance company Stockholm Re. Since 1994, he has acted as Deputy General Director of Länsförsäkringsbolagens AB; since 1997, General Director of Holmia, Trygg-Hansa, Länsförsäkringar Liv, and Länsförsäkringar AB. Since July 2011, Håkan Danielsson has directed Allianz.
