We would like to share another important event: Today, on November 11, the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference opened in Baku. At the first meeting, Nikita Lomagin, Director of the ENERPO Center, took part in the panel discussion of the Russian pavilion.
The section was titled "In Solidarity for a Green World. Ecosystem. Climate. Human". Nikita Lomagin spoke about EUSP projects related to climate and sustainable development: northern studies, the study of the Northern Sea Route, green energy, ESG, the search for nature-like solutions to combat climate change, the study of the sectoral specifics of energy in Eurasia, and climate related projects in education.
On November 13, Nikita Lomagin at the session "Climate Agenda: Challenges, Opportunities, Integration", will talk in more detail about the trilemma, that is, how to combine the solution of three tasks: to ensure energy security, to promote the energy transition (to ensure a shift towards greater use of renewable energy, which requires more financial resources) and, finally, to do it in a just manner so that the rich help the poor.
And on November 15, Nikita Lomagin, together with Maxim Titov, will present a book by members of the ENERPO center, including themselves, as well as Mikhail Oshchepkov: "Russian Coal in the Era of Climate Change. Why it Will Survive and Will Not Become a Bargaining Chip in Relations with the West?” (2023, 322 pp.). The book presents the results of an interdisciplinary study on the past, present and future of the Russian coal industry during a time when a climate agenda is being actively promoted by developed countries, that includes, among other things, the complete abandonment of coal generated energy.
The conference will end on November 22.
