Within two full weeks the summer school participants will have the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of Russia within the Eurasian space, analyzing it from historical and contemporary, theoretical and practical perspectives. The students will be engaged in thoughtful discussions with Russian and Post-Soviet studies experts gathered in St. Petersburg and visit landmarks of special significance to Russia’s past and present.

Leading scholars from diverse academic disciplines will discuss the multifaceted nature of the Eurasian space within an interdisciplinary framework, covering topics such as the origins of Russian nationhood and statehood, critical phases in Russian state history, historical shifts and political legacies of the Eurasian region, the intricate realities of Russia’s neighboring areas, and key issues influencing current Eurasian tensions from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Russia and its neighboring regions have played a key role in shaping the geopolitical landscape of contemporary Eurasia. Understanding the era we live in, particularly the “pivot region” of the Eurasian space, which serves as a focal point in international affairs and significantly impacts global power shifts and world dynamics, requires a multidimensional exploration of Russia and its neighbors.

For decades, Russia has been the subject of international academic discussion, examined through various conceptual lenses: as a civilization, as a form of neo-cultural imperialism, and as a dominant force within the post-Soviet and Eurasian spaces. The EUSP Summer School offers fresh insights into the Eurasian space through a multidimensional study of the Russian state and nation. The program reflects on recent discourses about mobilizing the civilization-state concept in Russia’s nation-building and examines the complex relationships between Russia and its neighbors, exploring their impact on Eurasia both historically and in contemporary contexts.

We offer:

  • friendly international community
  • inspiring vacation in cultural capital
  • widening learning perspective
  • exploration of various subject dimensions
  • interesting trips and excursions

and much more to enjoy!
