Winter School "Interrelations of Society, Nature and Technology in an Historical Context"

The school is intended for pre-degree students with different areas of specialization (historians, biologists, geographers, ecologists, engineers, sociologists, economists, journalists etc.) who are interested in the historical and social aspects of the interaction of man, nature and technology.

Particular attention is given to the following questions:

  • How knowledge of the history of interaction between society and nature ca1n help resolve contemporary ecological problems?
  • How did this interaction change in different historical periods?
  • What role have academics, academic knowledge and technology played in the research and use of natural resources?
  • What are the organizational and functional features of socio-technological systems (for example transport, communications, and energy systems) and hybrid man-machine complexes which are made up of mutually influencing technological and social components? 
  • How can technology from one socio-cultural sphere be transferred to another?
