On August 30 at 8:25 AM the rector of the European University Vadim Volkov reached the eastern summit of Mount Elbrus (elevation 5621 m).
The ascent started from an elevation of 3750 m (the Garabashi settlement) at 9:40 PM on August 29 and took the classical route from the south; it lasted more than 10 hours. The vertical distance amounted to about 1870 m.
The initial plan had been to climb to the western summit (elevation 5642 m), but because a large number of climbers had been delivered by “snowcat”, there was a traffic jam on this slope. As a result, it was decided to climb the eastern summit, which offers a view of the entire Main Caucasus Range.
Readers may recall that three years ago Vadim Volkov raised the flag of the European University atop mount Kilimanjaro (also know as Uhuru Peak of Kibo volcano) at an elevation of 5895 meters.
