Migration Is not an Easy Thing... — Why Scientists Can Be Migrants Too, or the Dark Side of Transnational Academic Mobility

In this seminar, Irina Antoschuk will discuss the difficulties scientists confront when moving to a different country for work. What strategies do they develop to solve problems connected with their status as migrants? How do they adapt to a new work environment and how do they reach their professional goals? What resources do they use and what connections do they rely on? Using a variety of studies on higher education, migration, innovations, and academic community, as well as empirical data of her own research, Irina will attempt to answer these questions, paying special attention to the important role of ethnic and diasporal contacts which matter a lot for both research and transformation of networks of academic collaboration.
