On May 22, 2025, Mario Biagioli passed away, a distinguished historian of science, one of the key figures in the international STS community, and one of the founders of the STS Center at EUSP.
Mario was the author of classic works in the history of science, including his renowned book on Galileo. He taught at leading universities worldwide, including the European University at St. Petersburg, where his contribution cannot be overstated.
It was Mario who led the only sociology mega-grant in EU's history — a large-scale project dedicated to studying Russian IT communities around the world. This project culminated in the publication of "From Russia with Code" (Duke University Press, 2019), which Mario co-edited.
Mario was distinguished by his brilliant intellect, wit, and principled approach. He always remained open to new ideas and ready to support Russian colleagues, especially during difficult times for Russian science.
May his memory be eternal — a tribute to an outstanding scholar and remarkable person.
