The Khamovniki Foundation has awarded support to two more European University projects:

  • A project titled "Islamic Business in Russia: Spiritual Economy and Work Ethics" Anthropology PhD student Ilya Krapivin (details)
  • A manuscript by Institute of Interdisciplinary Medical Research researcher Daria Tukina "Everyday Life of a Hospital Attendant: Ethnography of Hospital Life" (details)

The goal of Ilya Krapivin's project is to study how interpretations of Islamic religious norms influence Muslim entrepreneurship. The anthropologist will travel to Dagestan and Tatarstan to gather research material before analyzing interviews and producing reports and articles.

Daria Tukina will be preparing a book based on a field study of a Russian hospital, conducted by the author from 2019 to 2023 in a small town in Western Siberia as part of writing her Master’s and then PhD dissertations. The main question of the book can be formulated as follows: how do hospital attendants create "order and care" in conditions of constant shortages, social hierarchy and the invisibility of their work?

Congratulations to Ilya and Daria and we wish you easy implementation of your projects!
