The analytical center “Expert” has published its new ranking of publication activity among Russian universities. In the 2025 edition, the European University has retained its positions in all three subject areas where it had previously ranked.
This annual ranking is based both on the number of publications and on assessing their quality through several citation-related indicators. The final score is calculated based on four categories: “Quality of Growth,” “Excellence,” “Demand,” and “Scale”.
For 2025, publication activity was measured for the period 2021–2024. Three indicators were excluded from category results: citation quality (under “Quality of Growth”), size of the research team (under “Scale”), and the Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) (under “Demand”). The weights for the categories and individual metrics were also redistributed.
The Expert Center analyzed scholarly publications from 143 Russian universities that appeared in 17 subject rankings and 7 thematic overlays.
Regarding the European University’s results, in the field of Economics, it maintained its 17th place position, the same as in 2024.
In Social Sciences, the University climbed one spot and now ranks 24th (up from 25th in 2024). The university has steadily strengthened its position in this category (having ranked 26–27 in 2023).
In Humanities, in 2025 the University ranked 16th–18th (compared to 13th–14th in 2024).
