John A. Weymark is Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt Professor of Economics and Professor of Philosophy at Vanderbilt University. He was previously on the faculties of Duke University and the University of British Columbia.

He is a former President of the Society for Social Choice and Welfare and now serves on the Society’s Council. He is an Editor of Economics and Philosophy and a former Managing Editor of Social Choice and Welfare. He has also served on the editorial boards of nine other journals.

Professor Weymark’s main research areas are optimal taxation theory, social choice theory, welfare economics, and inequality measurement. He also applies economic analysis to problems in philosophy. He and David Donaldson introduced the single-parameter Gini (S-Gini) class of inequality indices.

Professor Weymark holds a B.A. (Hons.) from the University of British Columbia (1972) and an A.M. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania (1973, 1977).
