Jukka Gronow

Professor of Sociology, Uppsala University

Jukka Gronow received PhD in Social Sciences, University of Helsinki in 1986. Since 2003 has been a Professor in the Department of Sociology, Uppsala University.

He is a member of different professional groups:

  • Member of the research group on Cultural Distinction in Finland funded by the Academy of Finland and University of Helsinki (2007-)  
  • Member of the International Advisory Board of the research project Trust in Food, a study of food safety and risk perceptions in six European countries that was funded by the European Union (2002-2005)
  • Coordinator of the research network on the sociology of consumption in the European Sociological Association (2000-2001)

 

Member of the advisory boards of the journals Senses and Society, Food, Culture and Society, the Journal of Consumer Policy.

He has directed and taken part in several major research projects including Cultural Inertia and Social Change in Russia that was funded by the Academy of Finland, and A Day of Eating in the Nordic Countries that was funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
