Part I - National Oil Companies: Myths and Realities - examines the specifics of the leading National Oil Companies (NOCs), such as Saudi Aramco, Venezuelan PDVSA, Mexican Pemex, Brazilian Petrobras, Malaysian Petronas, Norwegian Equinor, etc. It studies their place in the global energy market, their problems and challenges, non-commercial functions, corporate strategies, relations with their key shareholder, i.e. the state, relations with international oil companies, and energy reforms that are currently implemented in a number of petroleum producing countries. A particular focus is made on the energy transition and the way NOCs try to adapt to the new energy realities.

 

Part II - Lord of the Rigs: Rosneft as a Mirror of Russia’s Evolution - studies the history of Rosneft against the background of Russia’s development from 1991 to the present day. It examines Rosneft’s position in the Russian petroleum sector, specifics of its strategy, relations with the state, political versus business aspects of decision-making, as well as various dimensions of its power.
